Project Description

There is no other museum like the British Schools Museum.

Our 1837 Monitorial Schoolroom is the only one of its kind left in the world. We have three other historic classrooms, the Headmaster’s House and our wonderful displays and exhibitions based upon the extraordinary collection of 47,000 objects.

You can enjoy a tour with a volunteer guide (included in admission price) or discover the site’s history on your own with one of our self-guiding leaflets. Children can explore the site dressed as a Victorian boy or girl, sit at the desks in the historic classrooms and practise their handwriting in sand

Check out our latest exhibition in the old Infants’ School, where you can also look through copies of the schools’ Admission Registers and class photos – you may discover an ancestor or two.

After exploring the museum take a break in our delightful Tea Room and don’t forget to visit the Gift Shop.
